Let’s be realistic engineers are not thought out be the coolest people in the room. The pocket-protector uptight guy with an I.Q. bigger than your weight is not exactly going to be found in your next issue of GQ magazine, but engineers have always had jobs even in times when most others couldn’t find work.
With graduation looming for some of my colleagues, talks about graduating do not seem to excite anyone anymore. With the economical crisis in America civil engineering jobs are plummeting. With companies laying off their workers due to downsizing or companies outsourcing to a another country the thought of staying in school longer doesn’t seem too unrealistic (it never did for Van Wilder).
On a late Thursday night, after indulging in a group study session for differential equations I came across 10 coeds surrounded by what seemed to be some classmates of mine outside the university’s parking lot with flasks in hands talking about how drunk they’re going to get that night. It quickly grabbed my attention that on a school night most engineering students will rather go out and party than to put in some hours of studying. Then again, would they rather graduate and be jobless or stay in school and have that college experience partying their student loans/financial aid money?
