Politics aside, it seems like President Obama has been hard at work trying to get funding for civil engineering related projects. One of his latest proposals includes nearly $232 million for Everglades restoration. Whether or not this proposal passes through Congress remains to be seen.
Those who are in favor of Everglades restoration clam that this will improve preservation of water supply in the Everglades, which impacts millions of Floridians. Additionally, they claim that these efforts will bring many construction related jobs to South Florida. We all know how hard our area has been hit by the recent economic struggles of this country. Portions of the Everglades have been impacted due to construction of water resources related projects, urban run-off, farms, pollution, and many other factors.
