Ohio River Bridge Imploded

The Fort Steuben Bridge, which is one of the few bridges that crossed the Ohio River, was imploded on Tuesday, February 21, 2012. This 83-year-old bridge had a span length of 1,255 feet and was a suspension bridge that spanned from Steubenville, Ohio to Weirton, West Virginia.

If you haven't seen the video yet, it's actually quite impressive how they were able to bring down this massive bridge in a matter of seconds. They even show the demolition in slow motion! Engineers used sharped charges and explosives in 136 locations throughout the bridge. The Ohio Department of Transportation closed the bridge to traffic in 2009 and deemed the bridge "structurally deficient and functionally obsolete."
